Original 1989 Disney’s The Little Mermaid VHS & Cassette Tape Inspire Animated “Part Of Your World” Ukulele Cover Song

Do you remember the first movie you ever saw in the theatre?

What was it?

“It’s a dinglehopper”

I saw Disney’s The Little Mermaid in 1989 when it first came out. I remember being completely memorized by the film, the music, all the colorful characters and especially the song “Under the Sea”! How happy and fun, and exciting it made me feel.

Here’s a picture of the VHS tape I still have!

Maybe in a way I connected with Ariel and all the things she collected, little treasures that made her curious. How she wondered what life was like outside the “world” she knew that was familiar.

When I started the Annie Lynn Club in May of 2018, I began recalling memories from keepsakes and memorabilia. I’ve been adding to the collection ever since, and these stories are curated in what I call my “micro-museum.” It’s like my cavern of wonders, my “treasures untold,” my “gadgets and gizmos a-plenty”…

“But who cares? No big deal… I want more”

I’m so excited to share a ukulele cover song of “Part of Your World” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid I made with some fun animated features! ✨ (It features 1980s/90s “gadgets and gizmos“)

Written by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken for the original animated feature from 1989, it’s a power ballad, an “I want” song. 📺 Watch Video 👈🏽

It’s funny because I’ve had the lyrics memorized for almost 35 years!

I got a cassette tape of the movie I remember playing over and over and over on a car trip we took. No wonder when I picked up the sheet music for this song recently it just all came back to me.

Has anything like that ever happened for you?

Here’s a picture of the cassette tape I still have too!

I remembered sharing the movie with my grandparents and how my grandpa would try and sing part of “Under the Sea.” He’d get the lyrics a bit mixed up, but it was super sweet.

“Life is better, where it’s wetter… ” he’d sing.

When they went on one of their many vacations they once brought me back a wooden mermaid figurine. I think it was from Denmark maybe? They said it was from the place the story originated from. I thought that was special.

The Little Mermaid story and music became something we’d always come back to. Something we each could relate to on some level. It became part of our world. ✨🎶 Watch my cover of Part Of Your World.✨
