“Rainbow” Sia Ukulele Cover from My Little Pony Movie Soundtrack

I remember watching Judy Garland sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in the movie The Wizard of Oz when I was a little girl. That song was in all black and white and I remember that being in complete contrast to the rest of the movie that was so colorful! Her voice lifting up from that iconic octave jump in the melody, so memorable, as if to connect her current reality and the adventure in which she was about to embark. (In college I remember my music theory professor using that song and that unique characteristic as an example.) I loved how her adventure seemed to come to life as she was whisked away into the dreamworld of Oz, how there seemed to be an underlying theme of hope. And years later I’d feel connected to it still, learning another song featuring a rainbow.

I also remember playing with My Little Ponies, actually only one baby pony I had as a little girl. My sister Sarah and I’d play with them in the early morning hours in our room that we shared growing up. When I started learning this song I thought of that.

Below is my cover of “Rainbow” by Sia, the lead single from the 2017 animated film: My Little Pony the movie soundtrack.

I just love the lyrics to this one.

It’s always fun finding just the right spot to film. In this take, you just gotta wait until the end! Something truly unplanned and amazing happens.
