Voices Europe Tour Choir Journal Day 8: Vienna Austria 1998

DAY 8
Thursday, April 9th, 1998 (12:00pm) “Einbahn” (one way) is all over!

VIENNA, AUSTRIA: HOTEL HARMONIE

Today we didn’t have a concert so Lacy, Linda, her mom Ms. D., Sue, Kathy and I all took the subway to shop. It took us about an hour to get change for the ticket and find out where we were going. I love all the styles here and the guys are so hot! We felt proud getting back to the right place and felt independent. Many men here do the shopping and take care of the kids. At 1:45pm we met to go on a bus/walking tour. We saw the Belvedere Palace that was built in only two years. It was mainly for being a beautiful sight and a reception place. We also saw the Imperial Gardens where statues of composers are. We didn’t have time to see it close up but I plan to come back some day better. The nicest hotel, The Imperial Hotel, Michael Jackson stayed in once. Our tour guide said he wanted a palace, but none were for sale. I laughed! We also walked in and got a special tour of the huge palace where Elisabeth reigned. She was extremely beautiful but had a waist smaller than Lacy’s! Mozart sang in one of the rooms when he was six years old. I like the ballroom and dresses they showed. This lady loved riding horses like a man and gymnastics. She was stabbed when she was 61 or so and could have lived longer. She is known for her beauty and spunkiness and they released her secrets to makeup and beauty supplies to people of today. After an ice cream Rose and I went to practice and dinner. Later many of us went for ice cream and some for pizza too, for dinner was something of an odd taste. Look at me I’m talking proper. Anyway, we later met three guys from here who are in the military. They were really cute and a few stayed longer with them while Bev, Jessica, and I went back. Mr. M. and Niko were by the bar in the restaurant and Rose, Jessica and I went and tried to kill a bug in our room. The funniest part of the night was after dinner where Rose got annoyed with me and jokingly threw my coat out the window. It got caught on this pole covered with ivy and we laughed hard. Harry, the man at the front desk, who looks like Quasimodo, got it down with two broom poles taped together. We watched and clapped as he put it out the window of a two story high hotel room. Rose got a kick out of it and so did everyone else. She tipped him and we told him I was letting it dry in the window. He was cute about it. I’m beginning to wonder why everything happens to me. Tired. Content. It’s going so fast. Gabby -Tour guide, very good, rich looking.

Here are postcards and photos from this day:
